Two people were killed and one rescued after a factory building collapsed in Karachi on Monday. Several workers were feared to be trapped in the rubble.
The incident came near Siemens Chowrangi in the Shershah area in Sindh Industrial & Trading Estate (SITE).
People in the area started rescue efforts on their own before the arrival of officials and pulled one man from the rubble who was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
On their arrival, the administration officials called for heavy machinery to dig in the rubble and find those trapped.
SITE Station House Officer Ayaz Khan said that fewer than usual workers were inside the factory at the time of the building collapse due to a break for lunch and noon prayers.
Speaking about the Karachi factory collapse incident, A police spokesperson said they have asked the factory owners to provide the full list of people who were working at the SITE area factory at the time of the incident.
There were three departments in the collapsed building. An employee alleged they had informed the owner of the poor condition of the factory building two months ago but he did not take any action.
